Linda Edna Cardellini is the daughter of Lorraine (Hernan), a mother and Wayne David Cardellini (a father) who is an entrepreneur. Linda is Italian through her father's grandfather. She studied at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama and began her acting career on the British television show Just William (2010). Following her role as Lady Rose MacClare in the period drama series Downton Abbey (2012-2015), her breakthrough was her role as the lead in the film of fantasy Cinderella (2015). James was then cast as The Countess Natasha Rostova on the TV version of War & Peace in 2016. She has also starred in a variety of films, including Baby Driver (2017) and period dramas Darkest Hour (2017) and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society 2018 and The Dig 2021, as well as the musicals Mamma Mia! We're Back (2019) as well as Yesterday (2018).
